After the temporary suspension due to the health emergency from Covid 19, the Ettore Frani exhibition. The residences of the painter, continues with the opening of the third and final chapter, which completes, in the rooms of the Lercaro Collection, a project conceived immediately as a work in progress to share with the public the unfolding of the reflection and pictorial action of the ‘artist.
Frani today presents twelve new tables of extraordinary beauty, whose chromatic alphabet, always played on the black / white combination, gives life to a grammar made of lightness, elegance, immense silences inhabited by light sounds, earthy smells, oil, of mixed elements, burned. There is nothing disembodied, but everything is transformed, in substance, by the hands and gesture of the artist as well as the heat given off by the continuous fire of the Athanor – the alchemical oven – gives life to the physical transmutation of matter.
Alchemy – the key word for this third chapter – is to be understood as evolution, change of state from a physical condition to a new one, arising from the encounter, only transitory, with the Infinite … with the Spirit.
The man who experiences the Divine even for a moment, returns transformed by it.
Light and dark meet, dance, together they build a new reality. Always corporeal, never completely ethereal, but capable of showing itself in its essence.
Thus the hands that, in the first table of the diptych I wishful – guiding work of this third phase of the exhibition – touch and narrate with slow gestures the desire to do, to design, to create inherent in human nature, in the second table of the diptych they make more full-bodied, concrete, capable of action. The design becomes concrete, expressed by the stained cloth: no longer the candid, immaculate light of the idea and desire enclosed in the left hand of the first panel, but a flap of fabric that, acting, has transformed itself becoming truly what it was called to to be.
Light and dark, flesh and spirit, ideal and real, female and male dialogue. The concavity of the uterus, symbolized by the illuminated, open, welcoming hand of the left table, finds its counterpart in the male fullness of the right hand, which leads something with it. These two tables could not be together because, together, they represent life.
Frani’s painting is deeply connected to reality: it reminds us that in things of nature there is always a ratio, an end and that, for each of us, true abiding consists in stopping in what brings us to fulfillment and takes place at the moment when the inner gaze focuses on that end.
The road to get there can be neither only light nor dark.
The real alchemical work to which each of us is called is precisely this: to experiment without stopping how and how much light can already exist in the dark, giving identity to things. Gracefully.
